As a graduate, I have mainly been working on projects under an senior manager and/or a manager. This is usually entailed building models in Microsoft Excel and, occasionally, more sophisticated software such as Alteryx. A lot of training was provided beforehand and there are regular check-ups to see if we are doing okay.
I have developed my Microsoft Excel skills a lot through the work we do every day. I have been able to join a variety of training sessions, including general technical skills as well as more sophisticated topics. Working regularly in small groups has also developed my time management and communication skills.
We have a very balanced workload, allowing us plenty of time to study in order to complete the professional exams. The work we do is very varied and a typical project lasts about 2 months, before moving onto a new engagement team and new work. There have also been a series of reconnection events and socials to meet others in the company.
Having a study mentor and apprenticeship coach ensures that we are on always on track and making progress. There is flexibility in exam order / KSBs order, but our mentor/coach is always happy to assist us with achieving the requirements of the apprenticeship. We also have regular webinars from the apprenticeship provider to outline what we should expect in the coming year.
We have regular meetings with managers and study mentors to check up on how we are doing. We are also given study days throughout the year. In addition, my employer reimburses us for tutorials, travel/accommodation for tutorials, and study materials. Where we have any concerns, we are always offered support from managers in the team.
We have semi-annual meetings with our apprenticeship coach to discuss progress. We also get monthly news letters and monthly surveys to make sure we are continuing to progress with the goals agreed upon at the start of every year. Our coach is always available to clarify any queries we have.
The qualification requires us to complete certain exams from the professional body (which is essential for our job). We are also required to show we have met certain competencies, such as communication and modelling skills. These are skills which are vital to performing well in our role, so the qualification has definitely helped us with our job.
Yes - there are various social events through out the year, including with just the department as well as firm wide. There are also many different societies that we can be a part of, ranging from hobbies to faith groups to mindfulness. We also have sports events where departments face off against each other.
Yes
The environment here is extremely supportive; the managers are always happy to answer your questions, and are understanding that you have exams to be studying for alongside your work. There are many development opportunities and within a few years, you will have developed a wide range of expertise due to the wide range of work we do.
The application process is very user-friendly. The questions are not designed to trick you, but are just looking for your honest answer so that KPMP get to know you better and how you would fit in with the wider company. Preparation is important, but the most important part is being yourself.
