  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work in the finance department. My tasks vary throughout the month but includes posting journals, raising purchase orders, verifying bank details for payments, reconciling accounts and recharging amounts to other Cummins sites both in the UK and Europe.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Cummins supported me through my Level 2 AAT qualification and I'm now working towards Level 3. These qualifications have helped me understand more of what I do at work. There are lots of courses to complete internally as well which develop your understanding of how businesses operate and the threats they can face. E.g. anti-bribery & money laundering.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very well structured. You are given an induction when you first join to learn about the company and from there you are involved in monthly one to ones with your line manager to check on your progress and allow you to raise any issues. There's also regular meetings with the college to make sure you receive the support needed to complete your qualifications.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • There is a great support network at Cummins. Regular one to ones with your manager and there is the option to get a mentor as well. There are many groups that you can get involved with as well which also act as a safe space to raise any issues which you may not want to take up with your manager.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • All materials needed to complete qualifications are provided by the college and they are able to help with anything you are struggling with.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • A lot of the content covered in my qualifications has been relevant to my role. I've found this really helpful as you get to see what you're learning in practice and if you don't you can always ask if you can shadow someone who does the work so you get the experience too.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Opportunities have been limited due to the pandemic but Cummins run a EEEC programme which encourages all employees to get involved in the community for at least 4 hours per year which is a really great incentive.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Cummins to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Cummins are a company that supports your progression and wants to see you grow and succeed which is great for if you are looking to get started in your career. There is a great working environment here that encourages everyone to get involved and there are lots of opportunities to get involved in.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Cummins?
  • I'd recommend researching the company before hand to learn their mission and values as these are at the forefront of everything at Cummins and will show that you have an interest in the company's work. Most importantly just be yourself - they want to get to know you as a person and understand your motivation for applying.
