On a day to day basis I will get to site for around 8 in the morning. I am assisting the management of the Facades on my site. I will attend a variety of meetings through out the day to ensure everyone is working safely and good progress is being made.
I have learnt many new skills. One of which is attention to detail. When working on a site everything is very precise and measured in millimeters. Not only is the placement of materials key but also looking into the health and safety of people working. You need to be very observant when looking at people working and ensuring they are following their method statements.
On the Mace side of things I really enjoy my program. The team around me are very supportive and are always there to help with any questions that I need answered. The London South Bank University side of things is good. We are taught 3 modules weekly during uni season with 2 hours each lecture.
The programme is structured well. At Mace we have training regularly with all of the other apprentices in our cohort. This is good, applicable training learning about various different areas within Mace. This is also great for networking with others and learning from them as well. The university is very structured as well with a timetable given at the start of the year.
We receive great support from the employer. The emerging talent team are always there for us with any questions needed and any issues that we have on site. They also linked us with a buddy who is an apprentice / former apprentice doing the same apprenticeship as us so we have someone to relate too. Everyone on site is also great, very welcoming and easy to talk to.
We receive average support from the provider. [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions], the course director is very helpful and has always assisted me if I have had any issues with anything linked to my university work. Regarding the lecturers some are better than others. The lectures for my course construction practice A are the best and most interactive. Both sally and these Lectures are 9/10. The others bring down the grade.
Only some aspects of my qualification are applicable for the workplace and help me perform better within my role. I would state that I learn more on the job and improve significantly through being on site rather than in the lecture halls. Also learning from other people in the same job as me is very beneficial.
At Mace there are loads of extra-curricular activities. They provide a volunteering day every year to volunteer for a local community or do charity work etc.. We also get invited to panel events every few months to have discussions with Senior members on Face and close subcontractors discussing various topic.
