Sampling and testing concrete from all the plants in my area, travel in my own van to these jobs. Interact with my own people from Tarmac everyday, from the technical team to the external customers on site and deal with that responsibility for Tarmac. We also deliver cubes to the lab once a week to be crushed.
A big gain is the Uni qualification from university of Derby in mineral products, and this can help you understand the work industry you are in as it covers base from clay to asphalt and more. A lot of professional skills can be gained as this is a industry like no other dealing with high importance situations and machinery.
There is a very good work ethic at a company such as Tarmac, people have been working for a long time around you and is able to share their knowledge with you as they know you are an apprentice and need the extra help, which they help with. This company with meet your expectations.
The structure of the programme is done well as there is a lot to balance while being an apprentice, this is due to having to balance, learning the day to day job you are in, balancing the qualifications you are trying to acquire and also balancing the early career opportunities that Tarmac offers.
There is a easy way to ask for support but they also are happy to give you your space if it is clear that is what you need. HR offer support from multiple people ranging from your manager to your early career helpers. Managers and mentors gives you time to complete Uni assignments while also helping you day to day for your job.
As I mentioned before there is a good support from Tarmac to push you towards completing you training qualifications and giving you help along with enough time to focus on this part. I started on a new Uni course so it has been tough to adapt with the Uni but they have been helping out as much as possible.
Once you start focusing on your specific pathway, it helps you with your specific role as it is things you are doing everyday and it gives you knowledge that you can bring back directly to your day to day job. It ranges from assignments to exams that give you this knowledge.
There are work events to go out for dinner throughout the year, along with a football team. Through covid these things happened less and less but once things opened up, we was able to do more and more. There are many extra curricular activates to get involved in within Tarmac to meet different people within the company.
