As decor department manager my main responsibilities are first ensuring the safety and legality of the store. I then ensure my team are. proving the best level of customer service, carrying out gap management stock replenishment. I also drive sales and help ensure that are standards are at the highest level to improve the customer experience
I have learnt many new skills over the course of the apprenticeship and also more importantly I have been given the opportunity to put them into practice. The course has increased my confidence and has allowed me to deal with difficult situations in store effectively this is because It allowed me to dig deeper into company policies and procedures which give me a toolkit and the knowledge to deal with them
I really enjoyed my time on the course I like learning and experiencing new things I felt safe doing it in this environment as it allowed me to make mistakes and learn from them while having the backing and support from my fellow leadership team. I also liked that as apart of this I was able to help mentor fellow apprentices that had just started lower level courses
The program is very structured. I was broken down into different modules that I had to complete each months. This was very good as it allowed me to plan my time so I could complete them effectively. I also had the freedom to progress onto the next one if I was ahead the best thing is I could go at my own pace
I received a lot of support from my employer. I had regular meeting with my line manager [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] we talked about the course and my progress this was good as he has been a store manager for 30+ years he was able to share his wealth of knowledge and experience which I could then apply to my own situations
I received a huge amount of help. My trainer [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] gossip was hugely helpful. During the pandemic she was not able to come to store but still helped with teams calls to help our progress. If I had any problems all I had to do was send her an email text or call and she got back to me very quickly with the solution.
It has massively helped. I had just started my new role when I began the program so aswell as my mandatory company training I also had another structured training plan that greatly increased my knowledge and gave me a different prospective on how over companies deal with different situations and scenarios.
With the program there was not social activities or sporting events but on completion a huge graduation is held that I was able to attend which allowed me to meet other people that had completed the apprenticeships and in similar roles. It gave me points of contacts for other stores so if I face a problem they may be able to assist
Yes
I have been at B&Q for 4 years in that time i went from a CA on different to departments, to being a team leader running the warehouse and now decor manager. I have been supported and guided the whole way by an excellent managers and fellow colleagues I have been given huge opportunities to grow and also have visited other store and events which I otherwise wouldn’t have
The biggest advice I could give someone new is take every available opportunity and really put your all in everything you do. I was able to go from being on work experience to a department manager in 4 years as I took every opportunity available to better myself. I also threw myself in difficult situations and put myself in difficult situations which gave me a new wealth of experience
