My role as a protection specialist involves training and coaching mortgage advisers around protecting our customers. I focus on the conversations our advisers have and how they can help customers to understand their needs. I also support training of technical content around insurances products. I do this both face to face and via zoom
This apprenticeship has allowed me to expand an existing skill set when it comes to delivering training material but more importantly it has given me a much better understanding of how to develop training content that is inclusive, diverse and accessible. It has also given me knowledge around the theoretical side of training and development which has allowed me to understand how people learn.
The apprenticeship has been tough. It has at times been difficult to balance it with my day to day work but overall what I have gained has been absolutely worth this difficulties. I have really enjoy the workshops and webinars which have given me the opportunity to network outside of my company with like minded people.
The online structure has been good and I I have found that the content has been at a good level. A key area that I feel could be improved is the initial induction as I have found that there have been things I could have done with knowing earlier, for example the documentation requirements for the end point assessment.
My company have been very supportive in paying for the apprenticeship and giving me the time needed. My line manage has been brilliant with this as she recently completed her own apprenticeship and has given me great support throughout. In the initial stage my company were the good at advertising the opportunities
My skills coach has been very supportive and has given good feedback throughout. I have especially enjoyed working with the training who has been delivering our webinars and workshops as they have been very open about the process and how to achieve the best from the apprenticeship. Others people I have come across from babington have also been very supportive
Overall this apprenticeship has given me a lot of background and theoretical knowledge that I am able to use to develop my training and development skill set. In turn I feel that this has given me ability provide better training to the delegates I support as well as developing better content
My company are great at giving us time to volunteer and provide flexible working hours to allow this. In the past (pre covid) we have had the opportunity to take part in more social events which I hope they will bring back, including charity football matches and group volunteering opportunities.

I have worked for HSBC for over 19 years and have been given a lot of opportunities presented to me. I feel that they are an understanding company that embraces flexible working and is concerned about the overall wellbeing of their employees. The benefits available are also fantastic
Think of your career plan and look at all of the opportunities available. The initial stage involves key situational situations so with this be open and honest with what you would do. I would also suggest shadowing people in different areas of the business to understand the ethos of the business
