The role is auditing external companies which involves reviewing their controls, testing the financial statements and reviewing their financial statements. It involves discussions with clients about their company and asking for any evidence which can support your testing to back up the clients statements.
I have learnt to be sceptical and to have a keen eye for detail. I have also massively improved my excel skills, my teamwork skills and my confident in asking confronting questions to clients.
There have been very tough times especially during exam periods but overall I have had an amazing time. The people are great and everyone is very supportive and wants to help you improve.
It can be very intense balancing work and revision for exams but usually other employees are understanding and try to accommodate around revision schedules. There is a lot of training and a huge intake joining at the same time so a lot of time to socialise with them.
Busy season is really really tough but there is a big emphasis on wellbeing within the firm and always someone who you can speak to so I felt very supported and welcomed during my year.
There is a fair amount of support from the training provider. They are always there to answer any emails and questions which is very useful.
I think the qualification and the work often go hand in hand as you're learning about things you are working on.
Yes, there are always socials going on and sports teams to get involved in if you want to. The social life is really great if you want to get involved and definitely makes the job a whole lot easier.
Yes
I think the accounting qualification is an amazing qualification to have and to get it at one of the big 4 is really great. It's such a big firm that there are always people around to get you through the tougher times.
Show your personality in your interview and try get as involved with your peers/team as possible.
