Work Experience Student Review

The work experienced involved an insight day into the Glasgow office, in which we were given a tour of the office and got to chat to some of the solicitors at the firm. We then took part in a 4 day long virtual work experience in which we took part in many different workshops which were all very interesting.

I was able to build my teamwork and communication skills, by taking part in group projects throughout the work experience. I also gained knowledge of new legal terms by having the opportunity to take part in case studies. My confidence also increased as the work experience progressed as I felt comfortable sharing my thoughts with my group and team leaders.

I really enjoyed the work experience, I did however really enjoy the in-person day, in which we were able to go into the Glasgow office. However due to current restrictions we were unable to be in the offices full time. But regardless the online program was amazing and very informative.

The work experience was very well organised. There were clear and detailed timetables for each day. The platform used (Forage) meant that the schedule was very clear and easy to understand. Overall there were no issues and all staff members were amazing at keeping everyone on track throughout the program.

Throughout the program we learned lots about the company culture and the environment at the firm. The company culture was all about working with all staff members and ensuring inclusion for all. After this work experience I would love to work at the firm in the future as I believe they have a very positive work environment.

Before the work experience I have always wanted to do law as a career path. This program solidified this. This program also showed me the different parts of law and the different tasks that solicitors often do. This therefore increased my interest in law and has given me the motivation to pursue a career in law.

No we were not paid or reimbursed for this experience. This is because we are still school students and this work experience was more for an insight into the role of a solicitor rather than working along side solicitors. Overall the experience was very informative and gave us all a better understanding of law as a career path.

Yes, on the in-person day at the Glasgow office we were given the chance to take part in a networking lunch. This meant that whilst having our lunch we were able to chat with solicitors in different areas of law. This also meant we could ask any questions we had and also ask for general advice.

I would recommend this work experience to a friend as it gave me a unique insight into the actual job of a solicitor which I did not previously have. The program did not only focus on one aspect of law and instead gave a great variety of roles within the firm that also relate to law which I found very interesting.

My best tips would be to just be yourself and be confident. The team are very supportive and encourage new ideas and perspectives. I also think it is great to share why you are interested in law as a career path and what you believe you could gain from this work experience.
