It involved a number of online sessions and presentations from various departments of Pinsent Masons. We also did various independent tasks which showed us what the day to day work of trainee solicitors in Pinsent Masons was like. These tasks also allowed us to get more familiar with reading and drafting statutory language.
This course developed my skills with interpreting and applying legal texts, analysing current events from the perspective of a legal firm and its clients, staying up to date with various industries and how they apply to law, and also developed my confidence in presenting my ideas to others. The course also gave me plenty of resources for further reading which will assist me greatly in my university applications.
I thoroughly enjoyed it. The presenters were very knowledgeable and interesting to listen to, speakers consistently encouraged people asking questions, the sessions were varied and interactive, and the organisers were very friendly and always on hand to sort out any issues. The organisers created a very welcoming environment by hosting networking lunches and group projects which allowed me to work on a friendly basis with my peers.
The course was extremely well organised through forage which set out the timetable, meeting links, and all the tasks in one easy to use place. There was only one instance where I struggled getting into a call and the organisers were very friendly and helpful and remedied the situation almost immediately.
The course displayed the welcoming and friendly nature of Pinsent Masons as a workplace as well as the varied and interesting work it offers. We had plenty of opportunities to talk to trainee solicitors who all recommended Pinsent Masons as a flexible, social, and nurturing place to work across all of its offices, UK and abroad.
It helped me greatly in affirming that law is the field I want to work in in the future. As someone who up until now has been almost exclusively interested in criminal law, this programme has caused me to consider corporate law in a more serious light. I have a few years until I need to decide which area of law I pursue as a career, but after this course I'm certainly not going to close the door of corporate law when I make that choice.
Because this course took place completely online (with the exception of one in-person day I was sadly unable to attend and am therefore unable to comment on) we were not reimbursed for travel, meal, and accommodation costs as this was not needed. We were also not paid in the sense of acting as interns as we were not there helping out in the office.
Yes, there were various meetings where we could talk to trainee solicitors. These sessions ranged from presentations with all the students in the call followed by a Q&A to small group sessions where we could ask trainee solicitors from our region advice on writing personal statements and CVs, studying at university, and where to go afterwards.
Yes
Its an extremely helpful course that remains interesting if you intend to study law or not. The hands-on sessions were incredibly fun and a good way to practice confidence and public speaking. The resources offered are also extremely useful and will help guide my further reading for my university applications.
Do it. Ask as many questions as you can think of, no matter how small. The presenters always made it clear that there is no such thing as a silly question. Take part in the group discussions as much as you can. Note down every article or podcast mentioned and look it up later. Just be as enthusiastic and authentically you as you can be.
