The Corporate Tax Degree Apprenticeship with Grant Thornton was completed by school leavers and graduates alike. Many events occurred to help school leavers and graduates find out more about what it’s like to work at Grant Thornton, the application process, and the programmes that are offered to get your career off to a brilliant start. All apprentices were given a portfolio of clients to work with, and received buddies and mentor support.
Yes, at the Grant Thornton corporate tax degree Apprenticeship I learned several skills, including communication skills, active listening skills, leadership skills, organisation and time management skills, and experience in the Big 4 workforce. I was also able to use my initiative and host insight sessions with potential trainees, interns, graduates and apprentices.
Really enjoyed the experience because there were many opportunities to speak to different graduates/ apprentices who work at Grant Thornton, from Forensic Accounting, to Advisory graduates, and ask them about how Grant Thornton has helped shape their career. The technology Grant Thornton had used to build the experience was substantial.
The Grant Thornton Corporate Tax Degree Apprenticeship was for 4 years and it was very well organised. There were plenty of holidays (25 days) and students were also given time off for exams. Human Resources was always available to speak to, management structure was supportive and organised. Many events held at different locations.
I think I receive a decent amount of support from Grant Thornton, however there can be some miscommunication between HR and managers. Oftentimes during stressful periods such as "busy season", after the first year you're expected to use your initiative as things can get quite hectic- but generally the support is good.
I received a decent amount of support, training was provided online and in person. Exams were sat in person, lots of revision guides, flashcards and videos were provided in preparation for the exam. The qualification for corporate tax was the CTA, however, some students complete the ATT or the ACCA.
I believe the qualification is absolutely necessary to help employees perform better in the role. Without the qualification, many specific vocabulary and terms, laws and data analysis would be confusing. However, I'd like to add that the CTA can be very difficult at times, but the training provider was supportive.
There were several extra curricular activities to get involved in, for example Christmas parties. Social activities such as the 5k run would be hosted, which was quite a lot of fun! Professional networking events were regular and there were also many sports teams and events which we attended on the regular.
Yes
The CTA qualification includes many different subjects, from accounting and finance, to management with the business skills and techniques that are needed to be a knowledgeable member of any organization. Although completing an apprenticeship and a qualification can be a challenge (multi-tasking) the work/industry experience as well as a professional qualification is ideal.
CTA is not only for apprentices or school leavers, anybody is able to complete it. If you are a graduate with an accounting/finance background or something similar, you are able to apply for exemptions so that the qualification does not take as long to complete. The Grant Thornton website has more details on employers providing the qualification.
