There were daily virtual presentations from different teams at Pinsent Masons - this includes litigation, street law and employment. These presentations were interactive and would end with a task or question that we were split up into breakout rooms to answer. In our groups, we would discuss what we thought and then would present it to the rest of the group.
This work experience enhanced my communication and teamworking skills as we would be put into groups to discuss and collaborate. I also developed an eye for attention to detail especially while doing doing the contract exercise as the smallest of details could change an entire document and it was important or me to be able to examine formal writing properly.
I enjoyed the wok experience - I had quite high expectations of being able to interact with solicitors and members of their team and to be able to interview them and I got my wish. The tasks they gave us were not too difficult but were still mentally stimulating and the team were extremly friendly and willing to assist if there were any concerns.
There was a schedule placed onto the Forage webpage which laid out daily tasks and the times for each virtual session. There was an induction day prior to the work experience to ease us into the programme and to let us know how to access what we'd need. Each session was punctual and was easy to access.
Company Culture was touched on a little bit but we mainly heard about each of the solicitors pathways into law and not much on the company itself or the atmosphere. By the friendliness of the presenters, I could see myself fitting in but not a lot of information was given regarding to the Pinsent Masons experience.
I already knew prior to this experience that I wanted to work in the legal sector as a solicitor but hearing the experiences of the solicitors cemented that decision for me and assured me that i was going down the right path. There was a lot of information given as well on alternative routes which was also helpful.
I was not paid or reimbursed for this experience as it was fully voluntary and virtual- there were no travel, meal or social costs involved and the location was remote.
There were opportunities to partake in a networking lunch with the solicitors and other members of the work experience program to get to know each other better and ask any questions we had.
Yes
Pinsent Masons has a stellar reputation and the work experience program upheld it for me. If there is an interest in law, then Pinsent Masons is full of intelligent, friendly and ambitious people which is why I would recommend it to a friend.
In the application process, be as honest as possible about why you want to be a part of the work experience. Speak up as much as you feel comfortable to when there are opportunities to voice your opinion and don't be afraid to disagree with people in discussions.
