Throughout the week I engaged in a variety of sessions. These included more informative sessions with trainee and quantified lawyers, who provided insights into the career and the journey of qualifying as a practising solicitor. There were also interactive sessions on different areas of law where we were given different tasks and had to compete them in groups or individually.
I developed a range of skills many of which are essential for lawyers and those in the legal profession. The included developing my commercial awareness, ability to critically read contracts, summarise information into a lease report and also analyse legal ideas. There were both teamwork and independent skills being used throughout the week.
I really enjoyed the work experience; despite being virtual it was very engaging and by having the in-person Insight Day prior, it made the virtual aspect less daunting and awkward. It also meant we were able to network and communicate to each other throughout the week, which was very enjoyable.
The work experience was highly organised, with no issues arising through the week. All aspects of the experience were of great quality and there is nothing that I can state needed improvement. The team was available to help at any moment if any issues did arise and this was due to great communication.
There were a few sessions which mentioned the culture and environment of Pinsent Masons, for example the session on responsible business, and everything seemed to be very positive and diverse. Attending the Insight Day also allowed for us to learn about the company’s culture. Pinsent Masons is definitely a work place that I would love to be part of in the future!
The work experience provided great insights into the career path, presenting both the positive aspects of it, but also discussing the more difficult aspects of the job. The well rounded information has enabled myself and other students to solidify their decisions about their future careers plans and this is very beneficial.
The work experience was not paid, it was for us to develop our understanding of the legal career and also improve our skills. It was a great experience that was made accessible to many. As it was online, there was no cost from our part, therefore reimbursement was not necessary.
The Insight Day provided a great opportunity to network with other students, as well as training and qualified solicitors and also the team who organised the experience. Throughout the week, there were networking lunches and also activities in smaller groups which were a good to talk to new people and employees.
Yes
It is a successful firm that has a great purpose and approach to its work. Pinsent Masons has important values which are implemented and seen throughout the firm. The international aspect of the company allows for a diversity in culture and background and this makes the firm welcoming and successful.
Ensure to be open minded and receptive to all the information provided, even if you do not believe you are interested in a certain area of law, you may be pleasantly surprised. Make sure to engage with all the sessions and tasks and do not be afraid to asks questions.
