The work experience was targeted towards students who were looking to go into law. We were introduced to various areas of the law as well as things like how to enter into the law. We also learned more about what it is like to be a solicitor at Pinsent Masons, and did some group and individual tasks which helped us.
Firstly, I learned more about the skills needed to be a solicitor at Pinsent Masons, among which are organisational skills, leadership skills, communication skills and teamwork skills. Furthermore, I gained some insight and training into how to become a solicitor/solicitor trainee, meaning I developed skills such as CV writing and how to apply for apprenticeships or placements.
I really enjoyed my work experience for many reasons. Firstly, it gave me valuable insight into what it is like to be a solicitor in a firm such as Pinsent Masons, and I developed many skills relating to that. Secondly, this experience has helped me understand more on what I need to do in the future to become a lawyer.
My work experience was very well organised. There was a pre-planned schedule everyday that was available on the website that we used, which provided not only when everything was due to take place but also the meeting link. Furthermore, the website provided all the resources and a way to communicate with others also taking place in the work experience.
From listening to various talks and presentations by solicitors and trainee solicitors from Pinsent Masons, I have learned a lot about the company culture, such as that work-life balance is very well respected, and I have also learned about what it is like to work there and what types of tasks normal employees do.
This work experience has helped me a lot on deciding my future career plan. I have always been interested in law, but this work experience has allowed me to explore in detail the different aspects of the law, and have allowed me to narrow down my focus and perhaps have a clearer idea of what area of the law I would like to go into.
No I wasn't paid for this work experience. As this was a work experience I wasn't expecting to be paid. However I gained many valuable insights from this work experience. I not only gained many valuable skills and trainings, but I also have a clearer idea for my future.
There were many opportunities for networking and meeting others. Through the virtual talks, I was able to ask many questions and communicate with solicitors or training solicitors from Pinsent Masons. Furthermore, the website the work experience was held on allowed me to communicate with any other students on the work experience.
Yes
I would definitely recommend the Pinsent Masons legal work experience as it has allowed me to explore many areas of the law through the various presentations and tasks, and has allowed me to develop many valuable skills regarding not only becoming a lawyer, but also how to do well and be on the route to becoming one.
I would advise others applying to the Pinsent Masons work experience to make the most out of all the presentations and tasks offered to them. Also to interact as much as possible with the presenters or the fellow students, and to try and practice or develop as many useful skills as possible.
