  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role involves maintaining the showroom to a tidy standard and ensuring all the point of sale is in the eye line of the customer and up to date. I am the first point of call for beginning the customer journey from asking open questions and demonstrating the features and benefits of our products through lead taking.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt new skills in terms of how to use the computer aided design software and this has help me to give the customer a better visualisation of what their dream kitchen or bathroom would look like.The skills that I have developed is being able to attune to customers dependant on their predominant colour energy which I got a understanding of through completing the colour insights module.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoyed the programme because it developed not only my design skills but through the training I have been able to develop my personality as well.Along this programme I picked up skills that would not only help me within the workplace but also outside of work as I have learnt different ways to communicate with people.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme was Structured to where I was able to communicate with my mentor and other apprentices by having video calls through each and every module. I found that the post webinar power points gave a detailed description of what task to carry out for the modules which aided in being able to complete the projects.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I received a great amount of support from my manager who I sat my reviews with for each and every module. I was able to explain in detail where I was at with my course and what I had learnt throughout the module as well as how it had an effect on how I perform at work.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The support I received during the course was having 1-2-1 `s with my mentor to give an update on how I was finding the course work as well as setting task such as having my reflective diary structured with everything I had learnt with regards to maths, English and on/off the job hours recorded. I was exempt from taking the English exams but I was able to get a tutor to support me with my maths studies which was funded by Travis Perkins.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that through completing the course it has enhanced my performance in the role because I am a lot more knowledgeable about our products and I have gained a better understanding of how to communicate with customer types. Through completing these modules I have not only gained a better understanding of what Wickes offer as a service but also across the industry with our competitors as well.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • The extra- curricular activities that Wickes offers to us employees is a pop up multicultural Book Shop and a West Indian Food van with book giveaways and free food, Taking place at a Support Centre on the 18th of October To celebrate Black history month.The company also has pride festival events in early July to commemorate the LGBT community.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I feel that Wickes is like a family as we except everyone regardless of background/ ethnicity, culture and religious beliefs to respect one another. As Wickes is a large company they are able to offer professional training such as (LEAP) learn as you earn schemes where talented hard working staff can progress their career either through management or becoming a Design Consultant.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Wickes?
  • The advice I would give to anyone wanting to apply and work for wickes is that it`s a great, friendly environment to work in and develop not just as a work colleague but also as a person. An example of whats good about this company is that they offer perks during Christmas time such as gift vouchers and have reward schemes which you can use with multiple retailers.
