  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • The course gave me a good basis of knowledge in project management, along with industry wide tools and skills. I improved my own emotional intelligence, finding way to regulate and manage self, along with how to influence and support others. I was shown the difference between coaching, and training, and improved my own abilities to teach /coach others. I also learnt about building high performing teams, and how best to build a culture of success

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I very much enjoyed the programme with Dovenest. The learning sessions were excellent, with great support from our training Nichola. The chance to get away on the couple of residential sessions we did were invaluable, getting the learners together, where so many of our sessions were digital due to covid restrictions

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programmed was very well organised, with ideas and theories flowing well from one session to the next. In the later stages of the programme, as we were working on the final assessments, ample support was provided on an adhoc basis when we needed it. The workbooks completed over the course of the programme were well set out, and east to follow

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer provided support when requested. I needed to move some work around / re prioritise the work I had to complete. When I engaged with my manager on this they were happy to provide the required assistance. I did find the a lot of the work needed to be done during extra hours, but this was manageable for me

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The support I received from Dove nest was exceptional. Nichola was always available to help when needed, whether that was clarification on a point of learning, or just guidance on completing a bit of work. I could not fault the support given at all, either from Nichola, or the rest of the Dove nest team

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel better prepared for taking the next step in my career progression, with a solid base of knowledge, and practical experience. I also feel I was able to develop as a person, especially with the self management, time management and emotional intelligence work we completed. Some skills, especially the coaching work payed off immediately in my current role, while some learning set me up well for future roles

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • B&Q has a sports and social club that organises regular social events, from shopping trips, sports and theatre, go karting, and the annual children's Christmas party. This is funded by ticket sales for individual events, along with fundraising efforts in and around our head office Site. There are also many events set up to help and support staff, including most recently an apprenticeship festival.

  • 9a. Would you recommend B&Q to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I have worked at B&Q most of my working life, and the people here are what makes it a great place to work. The support offered to staff is excellent, with someone always willing to help you either personally, or professionally. Whether in store, or one of the offices, B&Q will help you grow

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to B&Q?
  • Be curious. B&Q will help you to learn and develop, but you will need to be willing to push this yourself. Bring your best to work, and it will be rewarded consistently with development opportunities. People who succeed at B&Q are the ones who jump in and help out where needed, sharing ideas, and talking to people
