I am an early years practitioner working with under twos. My role consists of caring for the children, tracking their development, collaborating with parents and colleagues, planning activities, assisting at meal times, changing nappies, engaging children in activities, writing observations on children, writing reports regarding children, helping children at naptimes.
I have learned how to multi task and prioritize tasks. A nursery is very busy and the most important thing is the wellbeing of the children. I have learned different techniques regarding engaging with different age groups. I have also improved my communication skills by collaborating with parents in person and over the phone.
I enjoy it a lot. I have colleagues and tutors who are helpful and easy to work with. My progress and development over this period has been supported by peers and senior staff. If I have any issues I know who to turn to for help. I also enjoy my daily tasks in general.
My tutor will call me every two weeks where we talk about my progress at work and to help me complete my assignments. I get new content once a month which she explains to me over the phone. I organise my time for study once a week and over weekends.
They give me time to study outside of work on a Friday and have given extra study time during working hours also. If I have questions about certain topics I can ask colleagues or a supervisor. I also receive healthcare which helps with mental health struggles that might come in the way of my studies.
I can contact my tutor any time. If I have any queries regarding assignments she helps me further understand so that I can succeed. She sends me various sources to help me better understand certain topics. If I am unable to reach a deadline she does what she can to help me reach it.
I learn a lot from each assignment. I have a better understanding of my role and the children from the assignments I have completed. It has been very beneficial and helpsme perform better at work. I can also relay this knowledge through writing reports and observations. I can have more informed conversations with parents too.
