I care for dementia residents that live in bridge care centre, we also take day care and respite, my role is to make sure they have all their care needs and wants met, what they would like to wear, eat or do during their day or night, art, singing, cinema.
Yes when i first started, i wasn't sure, i have learnt so much about dementia, the different types of dementia, how it affects the individual depending on which type they have, and how person centered care is much better for our residents
I love my job as it is different everyday, no two days are the same, i like singing and dancing with them, taking them to the theatre, band nights and bingo, sometimes doing art for the different seasons, and decorating for the different seasons
The structure is chosen by our residents, we have meetings every month and they tell us what they want, and of course we follow their care plan for their person centered care
My managers are very supportive, during my training, they have given me time to study, shadow the managers and seniors, and if i want anything the door is always open, i can talk to them anytime, also my trainer talks with them.
My trainer is also very supportive, if i email them they get right back to me, or they may phone me, they give me extra time if needed, or extra work that i need to assist me with my course
I feel doing the course makes me think about what i am doing, what i do, or say, especially the radicalization part, and arranged marriage part of the course
No we don't have any social club or events
Yes
As it is a lovely place to work and make our residents happy, every day is different, we have a friendly atmosphere, very homely
My advice would be to be open minded, get all the courses they can, especially the dementia one as it is very good, and Avante will give all the courses that you need besides the mandatory training
