The work experience involved a series of interactive group discussions, zoom meetings with members of the Pinsent Masons team and independent research tasks.
I certainly gained a better understanding of what a day in the life of a solicitor looks like. Additionally, there were plenty of opportunities to develop networking, public speaking and independent research skills.
I really enjoyed the work experience and, especially, the interactive group exercises and discussions. I wish that some of the work experience could have taken place in person, however, so that networking would have been a little simpler and so there would have been more opportunity to meet the professionals.
The work experience was very clearly structured and I found the schedule on Forage particularly useful. It was also incredibly helpful to have two members of the team guiding us through the day and managing zoom sessions.
I certainly felt that I had a better understanding of the company culture, such as in relation to sustainable business strategy, employee welfare and the sort of tasks undertaken by solicitors. I wish I could have experienced the environment in person, however, to really get a grasp of what such an incredibly firm looks like on the inside,
This work experience definitely cemented my commitment to studying law at the academic level. I found it helpful that all the members of the team and solicitors that we had the chance to hear from came from such diverse backgrounds, exemplifying the fact that there is no one 'correct' route into law.
No, I was not paid or reimbursed but the programme takes place online.
There were many opportunities to network with other students during lunch breaks and there was also the opportunity to interact with solicitors/trainee solicitors through panel discussions and small group work. It was especially nice that the school work experience email remained open over the week for us to direct any remaining questions to the speakers we had heard from previously. Unfortunately, networking opportunities were not in person.
Yes
I believe that the culture of the firm is completely unique and there is a clear commitment to ensuring excellent service while foregrounding the wellbeing of the employees.
Make sure to do your research before you begin the application process and have a sound understanding of what the firm is about - there are so many incredible initiatives and facets to their company ethos that it would be beneficial to get a grasp of before submitting an application!
