It involved learning lots about the legal industry; group exercises (including debates and presentations); individual exercises (including drafting clauses of legislation and completing a lease report); Q and As with solicitors; informative talks about routes into the law, responsible businesses and commercial awareness and tips regarding applications, CVs, and interviews.
I have developed my critical thinking skills through the tasks where I needed to look through legal documents and decide whether they were reasonable. I also developed my debating and communication skills through the teamwork exercises, as I needed to work with others to accomplish a common goal and prepare a presentation to a solicitor in a limited time frame.
I thoroughly enjoyed this work experience as I have been able to gain a greater insight into what a career as a solicitor would look like and this programme has helped my to confirm my intention to become a lawyer. I have really enjoyed the group exercises and have found the information and tips very helpful.
The work experience programme was very well organised, with a clear and informative timetable able to be accessed before the programme began. Throughout the programme, I have had a clear idea of what I am doing and what is coming up later and this has been very helpful to prepare my notes. the general organisation has been fantastic!
I learnt lots about the company and its culture, particularly about how it acts as a responsible business and how it functions as a base for social activities, such as sports teams and pub quizzes! the company seems to have a very welcoming environment where people are encouraged to work hard and play hard!
it was very helpful as although I was relatively confident I wanted to pursue a career in the law, I am not certain. I have found the course very useful to learn more about the industry and everything that I have learnt has helped me to solidify my intentions to become a lawyer!
No, however I don not feel as though I would be as I have not contributed to the profitability of the firm and I have benefitted greatly from the information that has been provided and all of the tips that I have learnt in terms not applications and the routes into the law.
Yes - during two of the lunchtimes I took up the opportunity to network with other students and I was able to gain valuable information from them regarding personal statements and the LNAT, as many of the other students were older than me and so had useful information that they were able to pass on.
Yes
The programme has been very informative and I have learnt a lot about everything to do with the law, in particular the role of solicitors and how to become one. Everyone I have encountered has been very friendly and has been eager to help me and has answered all of my questions.
Make sure to use the whole word count when applying for the programme as it will show a dedication to the application and a passion for the law. If successful in your application, make sure to utilise the optional networking sessions as I have found them very useful and informative.
