hearing from solicitors and trainees about the day-to-day lives of working in the legal industry. had the opportunity to breakdown leases, draft clauses, advise clients, and work in a group to come to a solution for a client's problem. Also heard from individuals in the business focused sector and learnt how to effectively network and remain commercially aware.
my communication skills - i had to communicate and debate with other students and solicitors that i had not met before. networking skills - i had the opportunity to connect with said students and solicitors to expand my LinkedIn network. research skills - alongside my team, we had to pick out the key information from documents and use it to help resolve our clients issues.
i found it extremely informative and eye opening as we were not just given information about the legal industry, working in the legal industry, life of a lawyer and how to get into law but we were given many opportunities to apply the skills of a lawyer and partake in every-day tasks of solicitors as well as ask questions to practicing solicitors and trainees.
mostly organised. the work experiences use of forage was very helpful as it was useful to have all the tasks and the daily schedules in one place. however, at times it took some time to be let into the meetings - perhaps if elements of the experience were on the same teams call, less participants would miss elements of the work experience
i learnt a lot about the company's efforts to promote inclusion and equality in the workplace. Their social groups are very appealing as they are a way to socialise with other lawyers/staff at Pinsent Masons. I also really like how each staff member feels included and at home in the environment of PM.
it cemented further my desire to be a solicitor. it was really useful to be exposed to the day-to-day tasks of a solicitor and especially the opportunity to have a go at these tasks, such as drafting leases or clauses and speaking to clients and working as a team to provide a solution
no - this experience was unpaid however, i gained a lot from this experience, such as transferable skills such as research skills, communication and debating. alongside this there was no need to be reimbursed as due to the experience being online, there were no commuting costs or additional food or supply costs.
yes, each day there was a lunchtime networking session which allowed me to connect with the other students on the experience - ones who i will likely meet again in the future, whether this is at university or in the working world. additionally, speaking to solicitors and trainees allowed me to make connections.
Yes
i have gained may transferable skills from this experience; skills which will undoubtedly help me in my future studies as well as my experience in the working world. it also allowed me a first-hand insight and experience into what solicitors do and exactly what tasks they complete (such as being given the opportunity to draft documents)
be authentically you. there is no point in lying on an application and writing what you think a firm wants to hear. Firm's want diverse individuals who can each bring something to the table and the discussion, not just carbon copies. additionally, when applying i was highly recommend looking at PM's website as they have an extensive number of resources to help you in your application, or in your decision to pursue law.
