  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Working with teams to ensure business activity meets our statutory and regulatory requirements as well as our corporate priorities, delivering service improvement through collaboration, day to day line management of team and leadership of project teams requiring mentoring and coaching to maintain high levels of performance and quality ofwork.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • In learning how to coach I have been able to lead my own team and project-based teams more effectively, colleagues who I work with are less reliant on me for answers but come to me for help working through problems which they take accountability and responsibility for. I feel like a more competent manager.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I love the learning and the workshops this is delivered through. We have an internal cohort of participants, but there's also lots of peer-to-peer support available through other cohorts, along with our own personal development coach which means there's always someone you can turn to for help and support.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I like the way we can monitor our own progress through Bud, agreeing activities due for the month ahead with our coaches. Dates for workshops are planned in advance so we are able to match our learning to those milestones. Onboarding could be improved and when changes to content are made this could be communicated better.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • While getting the 'headline' support from my employer was easy, my own line manager is very focussed on ensuring I have the appropriate off the job time to complete learning, and my team members are very supportive, there's no thought given to how the work of 0.2 FTE gets covered during an apprenticeship.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I find my monthly one to ones with my performance and development coach robotic and checklisty: my coach feels more like an auditor than a coach. However, I'm motivated in my own right and have the coaching support of my peers, so I don't think this really matters.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • In learning how to coach I have been able to lead my own team and project-based teams more effectively, colleagues who I work with are less reliant on me for answers but come to me for help working through problems which they take accountability and responsibility for. I feel like a more competent manager.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Riverside is a very supportive employer, with a range of staff groups covering mental health, wellbeing, disability, LGBTQIA+ and BaME issues. Professional development is supported through the apprenticeship levy. We have our own internal social media platforms where we can raise awareness of fundraising and social activities as well as the fantastic work that teams deliver.

  • 9a. Would you recommend the riverside group to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
