The role involves a lot of communicating with other people- working mostly in functions such as excel and pwc internal network sites. The job itself ranges from day to day from joining client meetings and team catch ups to selecting samples and looking at financial statements. All your work is done on your laptop and sent for review from somebody higher up in the business.
I've learnt more than i think i realise over the course of this placement. The main thing i'd day is the use of excel and specific key board functions, they really do make your work a lot easier! I've also learnt how to professionally communicate with people in the business world.
Despite the hours sometimes being longer than you'd like and there constantly being a lot of work to do the whole atmosphere of the programme is extremely positive. I've really enjoyed meeting new people pretty much every day and getting to integrate myself into different work styles based on how the rest of the company work.
The programme is structured to some extent, once you are in the business and started placement it is a lot easier to get into contact with people and the extent of resources available is much greater than you would ever expect. I think the move from university to placement can seem a little bumpy at the start but after a while you feel a part of the business. Not having to work and do exams at the same time is a real benefit !
PwC are constantly referring to topics surrounding mental and physical health- whether this be through weekly motivation calls to in person events to make everyone feel involved and really boost morale. The company personally care about their employees and it certainly doesn't go unnoticed- i feel that whether it be an associate or a partner everyone is willing to have a chat. Additionally, when on placement you will have a buddy, a flying start champion and a careers coach who all become very familiar faces and really make you feel as if you have a strong support network around you.
In the flying start programme we sit our exams separately to the company and therefore do not require support- although people do always ask how your exams are coming along which is really nice! In terms of the rest of the office, PwC give people training and revision days in order to ensure everyone can perform to the best of their abilities.
A lot of the knowledge that you learn through the ICAEW exams becomes very applicable to the work that you may be completing on a day to day basis. You constantly refer back to your own opinion and a lot of this is based on things your qualification has taught you.
When i joined the company, there was a graduate joiner event day where the business unit got to know the people who had recently joined and was a real ice breaker for the office. There are always town hall events open to attend and live streams to get involved in anyway you wish
Yes
Despite being a very respectable company, since joining ive found that the people who work here will welcome you with open arms and no matter your grade within the business you will feel involved straight from day dot. The company itself has its perks too which you cant complain about!
PwC really wants you to join the business being yourself and not trying to pretend to be extremely professional! I think by being yourself and just being willing to learn and throw yourself in at the deep end is a quality they really look for. Challenge yourself and take pride in everything you do!
