I run a contract branch selling plumbing and heating materials to the trade and general public. My job involves making sure everyone works in a safe way and that Wolseley policies and procedures are followed. I also need to ensure I hit sales and profit targets for the financial year
On the apprenticeship I have learnt many new skills that I will take forward and use in my day to day role. There were many business models that I was not previously aware of that will help me develop myself further and work in a more efficient way. I will also be better at training my staff and helping them develop
I really enjoyed the learning experience. It was not something I had ever done before and I felt a little nervous going in to it. However, my fears soon went away and I beganto feel confident. My tutors were a big help in this process. At times it was very hard work but with their guidance I was able to make it to the end
The course was well structured and easy to follow. Each webinar was very informative and interesting and the people on the course were also good and heloed create a good learning atmosphere. It was good that there were people from Wolseley and also people from other walks of life. We all shared our experience well. I enjoyed wrting the assignments but time was an issue on occasions which was a bit stressful
The support from my Area Manager was good and helped my complete on time. I was kind of left to get on with it and no one really checked on progress from outside our area. It might have been helpful for someone to contract me from the Wolseley Careers team to check in on my progress
A great deal of information was avaiable on their website and also the tutors I had were excellent. [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] in particular. I had 3 tutors in total due to circustances beyond my control but all were good. I can't fault Lifetime training in any way as they provided everything I needed to be sucessful
I understand more about the operational side of my role now and have several models to work with to help my achieve good results. I was particularly happy with the people development skills I have learnt and hope to put them to good use either in the role I'm in or a new role
No as such apart from ones I organise myself. We do have plenty of networking events to get involved in and these help. As a branch we are all older colleagues and prefer to be at home with our families. I do enjoy going to meetings with my fellow branch managers when I can find the time
Yes
A good place to work. Very busy environment where you get the chance to do different things. Their talent management porogramme is very good for those who want to progress their careers. You really can start at the bottom level and work your way up. I hope there's a promotional opprotunity for me on the back of completing this course
Be open to experiencing new things and be a team player. Expect to work on your own initiative and always follow the correct policies and procedures when carry out a task. Health and Safety is vital and it is important to work in a safe way for yourself and colleagues.
