  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role was mainly based around shadowing another member of the engagement, who was more senior than me, and they would talk me through different processes and methods that they had to do to complete their section of the audit. Sometimes there would be a job for me to do that they could pass onto me and coach me through.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have become much better at using Excel and spreadsheets, learning various shortcuts and overall becoming quicker whilst performing certain tasks on Excel. I also have learnt how to navigated the PwC software more quickly. Furthermore, my communication skills have gotten better, as I moved from engagement to engagement quite a lot, so I met lots of different people during my placement.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoyed my programme very much, it was really nice meeting people on different engagements and being in a new city. I have also made new friends through the apprenticeship programme, both within the Bristol office and at Nottingham University. Learning how to complete various tasks for the audit was also fun as well.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The organisation in the programme was quite good, most people seemed to understand what a Flying Start was and would give me slightly more coaching as I had only just joined the firm and it was my first time auditing. However some people weren't entirely sure what it was and so gave me some work that was outside of my range of skills, but after a quick explanation, it seemed to be quickly resolved.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I received a lot of support from my employer, many people around the office seemed to know what a Flying Start was and so gave me the appropriate help regarding this. My career coach was also very useful and we would have frequent meetings within which we would discuss my progress.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I received a lot of support from my training provider, who sent me frequent emails wishing me well. We would also meet frequently on google meet to discuss my wellbeing and progress during my placement. If I was every confused about something during the placement that wasn't client-related, I would go to my training provider

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification through my training provider helped me perform better in my role, as work that we had learnt via modules, such as Audit and Assurance, helped me to understand why I was completing certain tasks during my placement, instead of just blindly following instructions. I found this very useful.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • My placement was quite short, so I did not experience the full range of social activities, however I did attend a couple of socials that were a lot of fun. I was not made aware of any sports teams that were going on during my placement, but again, I was only there for a short time.

  • 9a. Would you recommend PwC to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend PwC to a friend, as the office environment is very friendly and welcoming. If you are confused about something, someone is always willing to help you no matter what, the level of training and support is very high. There are also a lot of social activities for them to get involved in.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC?
  • Make sure to be open to meeting a lot of new people and making new friends. There will always be someone who is ready to help you, whether it is client related work, or just a question about office life in general, so do not be afraid to ask questions.
