My role is based on making sales and providing great customer service to all of our customers in a builders merchants, whether these are trade customers or DIY customers. This involves serving customers, exploring product ranges, merchandising in the branch, ordering products as required, completing stock checks and assisting with queries.
I have learned new skills in the building merchant sector by researching materials and products through our supplier websites and with help through my apprenticeship activities. I have gained better communication skills to help with building customer relationships. I have also gained more skills through the use of our online technology.
I enjoyed my programme because it helped to build on my knowledge and experiences when working with colleagues and customers in a new sector. My programme also encouraged me to build on my learning and my confidence which has helped me to feel more comfortable and happier in my daily role.
My programme was well organised and structured in the layout of the modules that I had to complete. Each month had a different section of activities to complete throughout the programme, which helps to keep you motivated and on track with the work. We had monthly webinars which also helped to stay organised.
There was a good level of support from my employer, I had a support coach who helped throughout my modules. When we had webinars these also included other apprentices from other branches to share different experiences and to support each other throughout our apprenticeships. The management allocated time alongside the daily job role to complete apprenticeship work as well.
The support received by my training provider was a good amount throughout working towards my qualification. I would have catch up calls with my support coach to ensure that I could ask questions about anything that I was unsure of and to keep me on track with my monthly targets.
I feel that my qualification helps me to perform better in my role by having helped me to gain more knowledge, experiences and skills in different sections of the company. I have definitely gained more product knowledge which enables me to assist customers better and with more confidence in my work too.
At my workplace we sometimes hold supplier training days which are helpful for both colleagues and customers. This helps to encourage everyone to get involved and learn more about different products that are available, as well as their uses and technical application for customers to understand. Having a better understanding of products helps to build better customer relationships.
Yes
I would recommend Travis Perkins Plc to a friend as this is a great place to work with a sense of care for everyone (all colleagues and customers). Safety is a top priority and everyone aims to work better together. We aim to provide a great service and to build strong customer relationships. The training programmes can help you to gain better understanding of building materials and other aspects throughout.
My advice for others applying to Travis Perkins Plc would be to aim to join an apprenticeship programme if possible as this will help you to learn as much as you possibly can about the different products and ranges that are supplied to customers. Also, to be consistent and confident when communicating with customers to build great customer relationships throughout.
