I am a pension administrator and in my day to day role I answer calls from members and IFAs, draft letters to members, draft emails to members. I also deal with incoming post for my team and ensure that tasks are create for my team and I to carry out their request.
I have learned a lot of new skills since joining in September 2021. I am now able to work on multiple business specific schemes and have improved my skill on Word, Excel and PowerPoint. My mathematical skills have improved as I do manual calculations and my literacy skills have improved as I write emails and letters to members.
I have enjoyed the programme as it allowed me to learn a complicated job role alongside being able to learn more about the history of pensions which has helped in my development as the reason why I do things became much clearer. They way my the apprenticeship has been organised gave me a lot of time and help to get my apprentice work completed.
I feel it was structured very well, giving me enough time to work on my tasks on my team and in line with the apprentice work. It gave me time to make amendments and not have to rush my work as it was organised well and planned to help me reach all the targets needed to complete the programme.
The employer has given me a lot of support and always ensured that I understood what was needed to be completed and always offered me support and advice to complete the apprenticeship. I was given a study mentor to help me with my exams and any questions I had were answered quickly by all.
The Growth Company has been extremely supportive with my apprenticeship programme. My apprentice rep from the growth company has always answered my questions on email or on a call and supported me through any questions or concerns I had with either my apprentice work such as Knowledge Statements work or my progress within the programme.
I think it has helped me a lot in my role as learning more about pensions through writing about the history of pensions or other areas such as the pension ombudsman makes the work I do on my team a lot clearer and gives me an understanding on why things are done.
Yes, since I have joined the company there has been a Netball match hosted at one of the office and I have also participated in a firm wide football game. There are also social events that are begin to ahppen more often now that restrictions have lifted and people are more comfortable coming out.
Yes
The company is very supportive and have given me a lot of time and resources to learn the role while working on the team so I was able to learn both sides of my role. Everyone has been welcoming and willing to help me since I have joined and are always available to help.
Some advice I would give to others applying to Barnett Waddingham would be to take a lot of notes as the work can become complicated and you may need something to refer to . I would also advise asking a lot of questions to your peers as the systems are complicated as they are a company only system.
