my role includes shadowing other project engineers and taking notes on how to fully plan and commence a project from start to finish, I also have to do training to further my knowledge in different areas of Thames Water so that I can understand when conversing with different sectors withing the company
I have so far learnt how to use divid by shadowing my co workers and have also learnt about the Thames water values, I have learnt about different health and safety requirements and that all PPE must be worn at all times when going around any Thames water site unless you are in the office
At first the program was quite slow and I didn't have much to do but my manager kept me busy as did my co workers by setting me new training with learning on tap, I have also now transferred to a different site that has a lot more going on for me to learn.
For a first time project engineer apprentice Thames has been very well accommodated and tried as hard as they can to keep me on my feet and busy by having me come along to converse with sub contractors, helping to inspect projects and letting me get photos of the different projects so that I can study them and gain as much information as possible.
If I need any help then my employer is always straight on it and helps me from the minuet I ask which makes me feel very welcome within the company
my training provider gives me constant assistant by providing me with revision materials, allowing me to see the lecture slides a week in advance to get any notes down early and if i ever need any assistants all of my course tutors are more then happy to help me out
it helps me to understand calculations a lot better and to also be able to have a better understanding of certain aspects of my job role but unfortunately not all as where it is a only a civil engineering course but project engineers require knowledge of all types of engineering to preform at their optimal level
Yes there are different activities such as lunch and learn, there is also multiple chat rooms to be able to converse with other apprentices and Thames water graduates to be able to talk and get in any extra information and also share information that other apprentices don't know.
Yes
it is an amazing company to work for with tons of benefits, flexible working hours and great people working along side you who will willingly help out with any questions or queries that you may have. There is also so may different areas of Thames that you can transfer into and learn the whole time to expand your knowledge
make sure you have a good work ethic and are ready to expand your knowledge as you will never stop learning about different ways to do things while working for Thames water
