I am a receptionist at Premier inn, I joined the company at the end of 2021. I check guests in and answer any queries, these could be face to face, phone calls or emails. I also ensure the housekeeping team know the rooms the need to clean on their shift.
Yes, I have learnt plenty of new skills and also developed existing skills. I have brushed up on my people skills and my written English. I have learnt the systems that premier inn use to check guests in and make bookings. I have also learnt about the electronic key card system we use.
I am enjoying my apprenticeship level 3 as it is helping me learn more about the company and why certain procedures are in place. It is also helping me to better myself and improve my career prospects with the company. The trainer is easily contactable and helps explain anything I need help with.
The level 3 that I am doing is well structured and organised, everything is explained well and it is all relevant to my position. Each module tends to run nicely on from the module before and it’s not loads to take it all at once, there is generally a couple of tasks a week to complete.
I receive loads of support my my employer, my management team always ask how I’m getting on and are always happy to take time to sit with me and help me if I need anything explaining and will always point me in the right direction if I need to research things.
The training provider keeps me lots of support, my training coach is always easily contacted via email or phone if I need help and will always explain things in a way that helps me to understand. She never gives me answers to my tasks but helps me find the answers for myself.
It is helping me perform better in my role as it is teaching me a lot more about why certain things are the way they are and why some things are so important to help protect both myself and other team members and also any guests that are staying at the hotel.
Unfortunately there are no extra curricular activities, however my manager tries to organise meals out so we can all socialise together and get to know each other better.
Yes
Whitbread is a good company to work for, they genuinely care about their staff. There are lots of added perks too, definitely a good company to work for.
Research the company and find out as much as you can about the position you apply for. Make sure you are interested in getting to know the whole team and don’t want to to just be left alone and don’t want to interact with others on the team.
