  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a general HR assistant. My role requires involvement in all aspects of recruitment, resourcing & on boarding, payroll & benefits, performance & talent management, succession planning and employee relations. I currently work in the HR Business Partner team where I undertake HR Surgeries and interact with colleagues in helping them with queries.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a variety of different and new skills, including teamwork, honesty and integrity, flexibility, personal development and resilience. My main skill I have learnt is teamwork - this skill is so important as it helps solve large projects and it brings new ideas to the workplace and more motivation,

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The program at Mace is excellent. The 4 year internal apprenticeship includes different training throughout the years, including new learning about the industry, but also training on personal skills for the workplace. There are also opportunities to be able to network with Senior colleagues from the business at networking events, such as 'Data in Construction'. This is also a great way to get to know your other apprentices

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The program is very well structured. There is a team of 6 colleagues from the Emerging Talent Team who are always there to support you. You are given a yearly training schedule that includes all key dates for networking events and training. They also hold an awards evening where apprentices are rewarded for their commitment and hard work.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Mace is great at supporting me as an apprentice. I am made to feel part of a team. My line manager is very supportive and encourages me to get involved in networks within the Business. For example, I am a Wellbeing Ambassador. Also, the Emerging Talent Team respond quickly to any queries I might have.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I recieve lots of support from my training provider. I have bi-weekly webinars and there is always time to ask questions at the end. Furthermore, I have been allocated a coach, who I have scheulde bi-monthly meetings with, but if I ever have any questions, she always puts in a 10 minute call to discuss my queries further.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification has helped me greatly to preform my role. I have applied my learning through real life experience in the workplace. My qualification has helped my professional development in my career and the knowledge I have learnt has allowed me to make better and innovative decisions. It also benefits my career growth.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I am a Wellbeing Ambassador at Mace - we are the key to keeping health, safety and well-being at the heart of everything I do. I promote key well being days, such as World Mental Health and International Thank you Day. I have also created virtual events to allow others in the wider HR team to get to know one another. There are quarterly apprentice forums with the Senior Leadership Team and networking events.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Mace to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Mace is a great place to work and they have worked on some amazing, well-known projects, such as The Shard and the London Eye. Mace has many opportunities to excel in your career. Volunteering is also widely promoted and it is great to give back to the community. For example, Mace have organised a skydive, where 50 colleagues are taking part in raising money for St Mungos.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Mace?
  • Take your time when sending in your application, make sure you have researched the company and learnt a bit of background about Mace. Also, when applying be sure to focus yourself in a positive light to demonstrate your action towards the business. Lastly, show interest in the role you are applying for
