My role includes being set tasks by my line manager ensuring that everything is on time and in budget. I interact with different people from different organisations and also different departments internally. I have certain responsibilities from different people who support me and make sure I am confident and understand what I am doing.
I learn new skills everyday and continue developing them. As an apprentice you communicate with different people externally and internally giving you different skills. Mace helps you track and improve these skills with a skills portfolio to ensure you are developing existing skills and also making new ones. Ensuring you will have great career progression.
I love my programme! The staff and team are amazing, they support me and make sure I have something to do but also making sure I understand what I am doing and different construction terminology. I can see they support my career progression and want to see me develop in Mace.
The programme is very well structured, you always have the apprenticeship team contacting you or your Line manager making sure you are managing your time well and you are not stuck with anything. There is always a solution if there are any issues and everyone is willing to help whether that is the apprenticeship team or your own project team.
I could not ask for better support then I already have. It is not just my line manager but my whole team are always checking up on me, making sure I am okay and also I am managing the workload. They make sure I am not being overworked and if I needed anything they would not hesitate to help!
My Training Provider is UCEM which is a online Uni. Although it is a online Uni you still get support. If you email with a question you will get a response very quickly, within the same day. You also have a Apprenticeship Officer from the Uni who makes sure you are settling in and handling the Uni apprenticeship life okay.
The first year is quite broad. However, it starts to become more construction focused which helps to apply this knowledge to the workplace. You start to understand other job roles and what they do, as Uni delves into certain departments. This helps to understand your job role and the Construction industry better.
There are social gatherings a lot of the time especially within your team. In the Birmingham Office there is also health and well being sessions and also a football team which you can take part of. As an apprentice there is also plenty of networking events with all the apprentices in your cohort.
