I work in early careers designing material that is used to advertise apprenticeships at AZ. I often am asked to complete odd jobs that require creative consultation or the creation of promotional or informative material. I am involved in social media campaigns, job listings, website content and collaborations with external agencies such as RMA.
I have come straight from 6th form so it is my first role in an office environment. I have learnt time management, presentation, communication and planning skills through a course paid for by AZ - all apprentices undertake this. I have also learnt lots through my course and work, including video editing and picture editing skills.
I work daily with other apprentices my age, as well as having a welcoming and friendly team and manager. Work is often very enjoyable, sometimes it does not even feel like a job. Creating content is something i am very passionate for and therefore i am rarely tired of it.
The programme is well organised with dedicated people that cover both internal and external affairs. Apprentices are a major part of AZ and they are treated as such, with well structured rotations for it apprentices for example. There is however always room for improvement. Lots of difficulties come from site locations being so distant.
My manager is unbelievably supportive as well as others in the business, People are understanding of an apprentice's lack of experience but also treat you with the same level of respect as everyone else in the business. Senior Leaders are also passionate about the programme and are happy to speak to apprentices.
All learning is remote so there is a barrier there. My trainer is very supportive and shares materials with me weekly that help me with coursework and eventually my epa. Lessons occur around once a month and all other learning is self taught through online classrooms. Content is good but could be better.
My role is solely based around my creative skills and proficiency with software such as photoshop and premiere pro, these skills have been aided by the course i am on. The course also teaches me specific skills such as market segmentation, branding and skills specific to the creative industry which i can use in my role.
The social aspect at AZ is brilliant. There is a huge apprentice community that go out once a month, with everyone included. There is opportunities to volunteer for charity work days with az, who pay wages for you on said days. I have been lucky enough to work with the toy appeal who work to give underprivileged kids toys on Christmas. This was months after i joined. There are also careers fairs and professional conventions that can be attended.

AstraZeneca has given me everything i need to transition into the working worlds. I have a supportive team and manager that have eased me into work, and the role that i am in is perfect for my skillset and level of ability. The apprentice community here is fantastic and is something unheard of at other organisations. Also, the Christmas parties are to die for.
Be you, at AstraZeneca they are very willing to celebrate new ideas and vibrant personalities. When doing your interview, they are not looking for skills or experience, they are investing in you as a person so make sure to bring the real you. Do not feel nervous, these are some of the most welcoming people i've ever met.
