  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As a TAq Apprentice, I rotate through different areas of Talent Acquisition supporting the functions whilst gaining experience. This involves supporting on projects, attending and note-taking at meetings, presenting findings and asking for feedback and networking with the team to learn as much as possible about HR in my organisation.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • So far, this apprenticeship has enabled me to develop many of my skills I had first picked up in my previous roles, including communication and networking skills, presenting skills, giving and receiving feedback, analysing and presenting data, organisation and prioritisation and reading and retaining information on processes and relevant legislation.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have really enjoyed my programme so far. The 2-year programme is clearly set out, I have a great support system including line manager, mentor and buddy, and the work itself is engaging with people being willing to assist with any queries I have.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very well-structured, with my different rotations within the 2 years being clearly set out, whilst also leaving room for flexibility, as my line manager has discussed with me the potential to change my schedule so it aligns with my development needs and studies.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • As aforementioned, I receive lots of support from my employer. I have weekly meetings with my buddy and fortnightly check-in meetings with my line manager, mentor and team. I feel comfortable to air any grievances/queries I have, and know that they will be listened to.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider has been hit and miss so far. Whilst I feel well-informed as to how to use the systems and when/where I need to submit work, sometimes communication can be a bit sporadic, leaving some room for confusion which could be avoided.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I certainly feel there are elements of my qualification that help me in my role, such as learning different theories to best communicate change, support the wider organisation, analyse/present data etc. What I need to present for my EPA also somewhat guides my work, so I meet the criteria.

    7/10

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I am involved in a fair few extra-curricular activities at work, such as attending most networking events, being on the Social Society which arranges events for apprentices, attending careers events and team meals, and also getting involved in Employee Resource Groups.

  • 9a. Would you recommend AstraZeneca to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I feel like AstraZeneca truly values its apprentices and gives them the opportunity to learn through others whilst also comfortably expressing themselves and really taking their ideas on board. There is also a ton of support on offer, and the company recognises the need for time to study also.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to AstraZeneca?
  • My advice would be to really sell your personality in your application. When it comes down to interviewing, whether you are a cultural asset will be just as important as the qualifications you have, so be genuine, be yourself, do your research, and make a good impression.
