I started at WWL in November and since then, I have adapted new skills and been given more tasks to complete. I help with department emails and deliveries that come into the office. I carry out administration jobs that help the team and ease workload among the department. I feel useful and part of the team.
I've learned how to manage work and get the most done I can in a day, without getting overwhelmed. I work more efficiently now than when I started and feel more confident in the work I do. I have learned a new system and feel confident using this on my own.
I enjoy my programme a lot and there is a lot of benefits to working for the NHS. My team are very supportive and make me feel included. I'd definitely recommend working in the Payroll team because everyone is friendly and down to Earth, willing to help one another.
I haven't yet been able to start my modules, due to having to transfer from another apprenticeship. However, Damar have been very supportive with this issue and have kept in touch throughout. The apprentice leader is very helpful too and everything has been great in trying to move things forward.
My employer always make sure I know what I'm doing and know that I can ask for help should I need it. I actually struggle with my mental health and they've been exceedingly supportive, making time so that I can take counselling and my line manager has offered her support.
Damar have been very supportive in the transition period and have stuck by me despite the difficulty, regarding funding etc. I am very grateful that they are taking time to make this work for me and I look forward to our journey together. The people from Damar I've spoken to so far have been lovely.
I believe that studying a Business Admin qualification is brilliant because it amplifies skills and it's not likely many students would have prior business admin experience before a BA apprenticeship. Giving students this support is extremely enriching and will help students to adapt to office like and day to day duties.
Yes, our global email sends out many opportunities to interact with other departments and be an ambassador for something you care about. For example, I'm part of the LGBT+ group as an ally and there are always updates on events and ways to help/ talk to others. I also am part of Equality and Diversity and FAME (For All Minority Ethnic) as someone with autism and an ally to the BAME community.
Yes
The NHS is an ever growing, wonderful company that embraces everyone, regardless of background and struggles someone may have. As being an autistic young adult who has moments of low mood, I have struggled in the past to fit in, but the support here is so brilliant and I'm blessed.
To newcomers, I would say not to be nervous and not to pretend, as here there is no need for that. People value honesty and integrity, so being your genuine fabulous self is what everyone wants. It really is refreshing to work somewhere so inclusive and happy to embrace change.
