My role involves working with supply chain data to provide analytics, insights and visibility to the various teams. This is focused around the external supply and manufacturing area. Daily tasks include running reports, creating automated tools with a variety of software and develop dashboard and other methods of data visibility.
I have learned how to analyse supply chain data, how to understand how supply chain processes can be optimised and automated. I have also learned a lot around supply chain strategy design, particularly those that can be applied in the pharmaceutical industry. The course has taught me how to understand business decisions, particularly around financials.
The programme has given me tools and methods that I can apply to my workplace. I have enjoyed joining sessions (particularly face to face) with other businesses, building a network with other apprentices and understanding more about their roles. I would prefer more interactive sessions where we can work collaboratively with the other apprentices.
The first 18 months of the course was well structured and I felt confident in the requirements. During the pandemic the need to deliver the course virtually meant that, at first, it felt basic and had very little engagement tools. The final year I have felt could be improved by breaking down the requirements of the final project into more manageable "bite sized" pieces with deadlines, as apposed to what feels like one very large challenge.
My employer allows me the time to complete my tasks where needed. I take some personal responsibility for not engaging my line manager with the individual Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours of the course. However, I do feel I can ask for additional support where needed from my mentor and line manager.
The training provider have been available as and when I have queries. We are provided with supporting material and resources which we are introduced to from the very beginning of the course. Some of the check ins feel like a formality rather than a true interest in the individuals progression but this is likely to support the governments requirements rather than their own.
The qualification has helped me take a more structured approach to my role. I can apply many of the tools, methods and techniques that I have learned throughout the training to my daily challenges. The structure of the course allows for me to cater my assignments to my work based projects.
The company offer many extra-curricular activities for me to get involved in. There are also options to introduce your own if you would like to. These include sports, volunteer days, charity events, social activities such as bowling and meals out, working with local schools and colleges and many other options.
