My day-to-day role includes daily tasks such as completing the daily paperwork from the previous day. Stocking up the counter making sure all stock which has a shelf-life is rotated correctly. Serving on the counter to assist our trade customers with there present and upcoming projects. My responsibilities are making sure that the counter is well maintained and the showroom is tidy and looks presentable. Also making sure all paperwork is correctly filed away in the correct locations. At the end of the day I am responsible for the end of day banking making sure all banking is correct and counted properly and logged on the system correctly as well.
I have learnt many new skills, Such as daily banking, Serving confidently on the counter, Learning how to do stock checks and line checks. How to operate our tills and how to process account payments. Also learned how to branch transfers and how to safely watch delivery loads whilst adhering to health and safety procedures.
I enjoy every aspect of my programme, As I have learned a lot of new skills I can apply to my role. I enjoy meeting new people and serving customers as I am able to build a relationship with our customers which will helps us build a loyal account base who would only use our depot
The programme is well structured as its split up in to different segments. So every 1-2 months I would move onto a different area within the job role such as warehouse, admin, counter and Management role. This will give me a chance to learn every role within depot and learn new skills from all of these roles.
I have received a lot of support from my employer. I receive regular 1-to-1's to discuss any concerns or anything that I may be struggling on. If I'm ever stuck on a task, my employer is always wiling to help if I need guidance. I have received training from my employer which has helped me gain new skills which I can apply to my everyday tasks.
I have regular meetings with my training provider on Zoom, Teams or site visit. Which helps as we can discuss assignments and how to approach them and what to include which will help me toward my qualification. I an always email or message my tutor on Aptem and I always get a fast response if I'm ever stuck or need help with a task.
I am learning various different topics on my course, Which will help me apply to my everyday role here. Such as using SMART targets which I can apply to my colleagues as its a efficient way to track progress and make sure were meeting targets. It also gives me another way to approach situations and everyday tasks in a way that a member of management should approach it.
There are many extra-curricular activities I am able to take part of at work. Such as there is Go-karting which is once a year as a competition between depots. There are opportunities where some depots members of staff play football together. Also depots arrange meals together. Also there are chances for a shopping trip which happens once a year.

Howdens is a great company to work for. You are a family when you work here. There are lots of great opportunities to explore within the company. You have the opportunity to meet new people everyday and build relationships with people you meet. You are able to grow and learn new skills within the company. Its a very exciting company to work for.
I would say be yourself if you get to the interview stage. Be confident in what you say. Show you are willing to learn new skills and show that you want to grow within the company and share your ambitions on what you want to achieve within the company. Show that you are invested and want to be apart of the company.
