  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Since starting my apprenticeship I have learnt various new skills and have been able to develop my exisiting skills. My most notable new skill is my technical knowledge, I have had to learn how to use and explain a new application to both clients and colleagues in order to succeed in my consulting role. I have also developed exisiting skills such as my confidence and business writing skills through both my day to day role and my education plan.

  • Personally I really enjoy my programme. I enjoy my consulting role and the daily tasks that I do as a part of this role. • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is very well organised and structured. Every week I have 8 hours of learning time which we are able to choose to take on any day as long as it is agreed with our managers. I find this very helpful to have a set number of hours dedicated to my apprenticeship learning as it helps me to stay on track.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer is incredibly supportive. Each month I have a review with my manager which allows me to address any concerns/ ask any questions. Although I know I am able to reach out to my manager at any time in the month it is useful to have this time set aside. In addition to this, when I began my apprenticeship, each apprentice was given an apprenticeship mentor. This mentor was someone who had just completed the same program as you so it was really useful to have them to ask any questions to.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider is very supportive. As I have a set amount of time each week to work on my qualification it is easy for me to stay on track and complete the tasks that are required of me. When I have had issues such as technical problems with some activities, my training provider has always been very helpful in solving these issues.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • This is one of the thing that I enjoy most about my apprenticeship! I feel like any learning that I do is relevant to my role and has really helped me to progress, both personally and professionally during my apprenticeship so far. Whilst completing my learning, it is clear that each task has been picked specifically to allow us to progress in our apprenticeship.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are countless opportunities for extra-curricular activities. To begin with I was worried that the opportunities to take part in events outside of work would be limited, however I could not have been more wrong. There are multiple communities which organise events such as christmas boat parties and coffee mornings as well as countless online events.

The support from both the foundation community to the support from my practice area is above and beyond what I could have expected. Overall they are a great employer for early professionals!

In order to be successful applying for a company such as IBM you need to show all of your key strengths and what makes you valuable to the company, you can only do that by being yourself and being confident.
