  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work supporting claims handlers dealing with claims up to the value of £15,000 for buildings and contents. Primarily dealing with claims for escape of water and fire, but also other perils. I support the team by answering referrals, delivering training and coaching, approving payments and reviewing their progress.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Leadership, training and coaching, IT skills such as using excel - creating pivot tables and using conditional formatting, communication - speaking to peers, clients and stakeholders.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy learning new skills and knowledge about insurance on the whole, which I can then apply to my job and deliver the knowledge I have learnt to handlers.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very well structured with specific goals to meet each month. The only issue I have is that in my job I don't always have the time to fit all of this in around my day-to-day tasks.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My team leader tries to support me as much as possible, ensuring I can take the necessary off the job time needed to complete my apprenticeship work.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I know that if I have further questions regarding my apprenticeship I can turn to my coach. He also tries to provide additional materials if there is something in particular I want to develop my knowledge in.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualifications give me further knowledge I can apply to claims decisions and also pass onto the handlers to help them better understand their roles.

  • There have been opportunities to attend professional networking events that RSA have been invited to.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I enjoy my job, get the support I need to progress and there are plenty of opportunities for progression. RSA is full of good people to work with.

  • Let people know early on how you want to progress and they will support any way they can.
