  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am training to become a Project Manager, to run projects on the P-Way team on a large programme called the Core Valley Lines. This includes learning to manage all aspects of a project includeing risk management, quality, governance, scope management, schedule management. As well as learning skills such as communication and leadership.

  • I have learnt a wide range of new skills, and developed skills such as leadership and organisation.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have enjoyed my apprenticeship a lot, it's been great to learn new things and develop myself and my career

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • There was a few hiccups and false starts at the begining, but that was mainly due to COVID

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have recieved a great deal of support from Balfour Beatty and my project team throughout my apprenticeship. Everyone has been more than happy to help me.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Exeter college was excellent and was always on hand to give me support when I needed it.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I think my qualifation has provided me with the knowledge and confidence to perform much better in this role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, there are team meet ups, for dinner or drinks. The project also arranges a lot of charity events, and providing help to the local community adn schools.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Balfour Beatty to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I have worked for BB for the past 14 years and have always felt like a vauled member of the team and I've always been able to expand my skills and knowledge, even before starting this apprenticeship.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Balfour Beatty?
  • Balfour Beatty is such a large global company, you can spread your wings and learn so much from the different sectors within BB. There is always something to learn and friendly people to help.
