My role typically involves supervising the bar area and managing the venue on a day to day basis. This also involves serving customers. liaising between the management team and the rest of the team members. I also take on the role of stock management within the venue, line checks and stock rotation.
During my time on the course I have developed my knowledge of my role and working environment. It has helped consolidate my knowledge and pushed my to apply it more within my day to day working life. This helps me develop my team members working knowledge as well and push them to improve.
The programme is enjoyable, however, I do feel that the questions provided could be confusing and slightly repetitive due to the poor wording. This isn't ideal but once you've figured out what the question is asking, they were definitely relevant and easy enough to answer. Other than that it's very convenient to complete during and around your regular working life.
The programme is well structured, I do feel as someone located in Wales, a lot of the in-person meetings offered are based very far away. This means the only extent I can really participate is online. I don't see this as an issue however I feel that there could be more to be gotten out of the programme.
Marston's have been supportive while providing these apprenticeships. I am very impressed with the company's commitment to providing further education to it's employees and especially the programme I've been put on which is the Women In Management programme. It's brilliant to feel that you are being not only supported by the company but they are actively promoting your progression and development.
The training provider has been very helpful in keeping us up to date and meet with us frequently enough to discuss progress and help us develop our answers to push ourselves to the best of our ability. They helped us to apply it within our working knowledge and where I didn't how to answer questions they were excellent at explaining them further.
Having a broader knowledge within my day to day life has not only improved the quality of my work it has helped develop my confidence in my role and prepared me for progressive roles going forward. I Having this confidence has allowed me to push myself further within my role and take on more responsibilities ahead of the next step in progression
Each team tends to organise it's own extra-curriculars, being a sports led pub we have lots of competitions, lucky dips and rollovers all themed around sport for the team to get involved in. This really helps especially if you aren't the most sporty person as it makes you feel involved
Yes
The company is really positive to work for, they provide really good incentives for good performance as well as being very supportive of it's team members and they're progression. I think they're a good company to work for and I would recommend it as a company to work for.
I think you definitely have to be adaptable and open minded. In this industry, nothing ever goes right and issues are constantly developing. You need to be able to roll with punches and emphasise your abilities in problem solving. Being friendly and personable is definitely always a plus.
