On a day to day basis, we will first in the morning have a catch up detailing what we all did the previous day and what we hope to achieve the coming day. we then begin tasks ranging from education with our company provided education portal, to coding with senior developers to working as a group to solve any coding challenges that we are facing.
I have learnt many new skills during the short time I have been here, we are assigned some learnings to complete however we are given a lot of individual choices when it comes to tailoring what things we wish to learn. I would also developed a lot of core skills such as communication and coding.
I enjoy my program a lot from being surrounded by smart individuals that you can learn a lot from, to tailoring your learning to what you actually want to learn, to the extra curricular activities that the firm provides such as events, give backs, societies and many other things that you can do if you want.
I would say the organisation is well managed, when starting uni the website detailed all of the modules and courses that we would be completing on a week by week basis and the firm give us one day off a week to ensure that we are able to complete relevant studies and learning for uni.
The employer is fantastic it genuinely seems to care about you as a person and for someone that experienced some hardship all I had to do was communicate it to my employer and my manager and task manager helped me to create a plan to help me keep up to date as well as supporting me emotionally, they also check in and make sure that everything is okay on a regular basis.
The university offers 1 to 1 calls if you need help, support or advice. they have handy online resources that you are able to access anytime detailing a lot of the course and it is beneficial to be able to go over things that you have misunderstood during the initial lecture.
I would say my qualification provides a greater understanding of all of the business and therefore the things that they have to do to be as successful as they are, we also are coding in other languages for uni so that gives a chance to consider any additional resources that we may be able to use when completing our work.
there are tonnes of activities to get involved in from weekly football tournaments, book clubs where you discuss a book and talk about things regarding it, there are also give back communities where IBM give you time to be more than just an employee and help the wider community through raising money or giving your time to a worthy cause
Yes
the work environment is one of personal growth and development you can go as far as you want in this business, they provide all of the tools and training which you can do to tailor to your career goals and aspirations. I also think working for ibm gives a great incite to the corporate working environment in one of the biggest firms in the world whilst still having the opportunity to contribute to something meaningful on a day to day basis.
I would say be you and not someone that you think IBM wants to recruit, IBM wants a wide range of skills and people because not only is diversity important to the firm they also believe that it creates the best teams. I would also say apply as quickly as you can, it is a very sought after position so the places tend to fill up quickly as little as the same day, so do not delay.
