I am a pricing data consultant. This means that I am in charge of running regular reporting processes in the realm of household insurance. The most significant of these is known as the scoring process in which the estimated risk cost of each underwritten policy is calculated, to give the business an overview of the risk portfolio.
The first module I undertook was in data analytics principles. In this course we covered a variety of different machine learning techniques and data warehousing. These were both topics that I had experience in but was able to develop these skills further. My new course is in business, in which I have been learning new skills in product innovation
I am enjoying me programme very much. The topics covered so far have been well paced and informative. I have also been able to see how they relate to my day to day work and have made me think about how I can use the skills learnt in my role.
The course is well structured. I receive the communications about the lectures in a timely fashion, which allows me to integrate them into my day to day work. The student portal that I was given access to contains all the information I require for my course in a logical fashion.
I have received a lot of support from my employer. I have been able to easily integrate the 20% on the job time into my working week. I have full support, not just from my manager, but there manager and there manger as well. I have regular catchups with my line manger regarding my progress in the apprenticeship.
I receive plenty of support from my training provider. As a major UK university they are well set up to provide support, not just for the course, but for the whole student experience. This includes plenty of pastoral care and advice around many aspects of a students life and living conditions.
I feel that my qualification (through your training provider) helps me to perform better in your role. I think this is the case so far as the topics I have covered have been well aligned with the projects and work that I am undertaking on a day to day basis.
At my place of work, we have regular meals out as a team to encourage team building. We also have special events in the summer and winter with the wider team. Apart from these their are a lot of different working groups that we are given the opportunity to join.
Yes
At RSA Insurance Ltd I have a very good work life balance allowing me to maximise enjoyment of my life outside of work. I am also very well supported in my personal development by all my colleagues, not just through the apprenticeship but through other courses and mentoring. I am also allowed a lot of latitude in my day to day work to improve processes
The main piece of advice I would give to others apply to RSA Insurance Ltd would be to ensure that they emphasised their communications skills. This is the most important skill I look for when interviewing potential candidates. as being able to communicate well with the various stakeholders is essential.
