I've enjoyed most of my apprenticeship so far. Feel I gain a lot from the learning sessions and workshops that have been offered to me. The task work set is engaging and helps me to self-study. Also enjoy the additional opportunities to get involved in new audits at work.
The programme is well structured. Regular reviews are scheduled to review progress and agree upcoming actions. Learning sessions are booked well in advance and and detailed instructions are given for any 3rd party activities that require organisation. Larger more in depth reviews are completed at key intervals within the programme.
My employer is very supportive with my course. They funded the programme and give me sufficient time to complete my off the job hours. I have regular one to ones with my manager to review my progress and raise any issues I need further support with. If extra time is needed for tasks these are always granted.
My training provider is supportive with my qualification. They provide regular training sessions and I am also welcome to email my tutor with any additional support I may need. I have regular catch ups with my tutor where I can ask questions about my work and receive help where needed. I was also able to attend some additional training workshops outside the scheduled apprenticeship when I requested this.
I feel my qualification will be very beneficial to my role; I already feel more confident within my role. I have more knowledge around the theory and background to my work. My qualification has helped to develop some key skills needed within my role, such as assertiveness and interview techniques.
There are many extra curricular activities to get involved in at my work; wellness groups, bowling team, exercise classes, tea and talk events, networking events that include local businesses and schools. Volunteer groups; litter picking etc. Regular bake sales, events at the libraries and regular service 'showcase' days. Annual 'away days' for each directorate.
Yes
Nice place to work with good benefits. Friendly atmosphere with good workplace culture. Always something to get involved it. Opportunities for promotion and moves to other teams are available to expand experience. Flexible working arrangements in place. Public body so feel like the work you are doing is benefitting the public; sense of achievement.
There are always plenty of positions available which are advertised regularly on the website and social media, so keep an eye out for those. Prepare for interviews by ensuing you are familiar with the Council Plan, the workforce culture statement, and the seven principles of public life. There will likely be questions around these as part of the interview process.
