I work on the self service checkouts. I assist customers in making purchases, asking them if they have a club card and telling them the benefits of a club card . I also serve customers who wish to return items as they have to be processed on a specific cash till.
As I had not worked in a retail environment before, all the skills I now have have been learned in the last two years. I have learnt how to use scanning barcode equipment, how to operate a till, how to process gift cards and how to handle cash.
Although I struggled at the start, I soon got to grips with the programme. So I am enjoying the programme as it makes me think of different aspects of customer service.
The programme is well structured. The online system is easy to navigate. There are regular review meetings.
The support from my employer is available, but due to the the work load, it is somewhat difficult to get the support needed.
This is excellent as I have regular meetings.
It makes me more conscious of how I deal with customers!

It is a friendly place to work and the pay is of an acceptable amount, with a generous holiday package.
