My role at is in the highways department, focused helping to achieve our council's net zero target by 2030. I am implementing an action plan to achieve this and working with our sustainability team to initiate change in processes and specifications, encourage behaviour change amongst colleagues and residents and looking at where we will need to adapt our service to withstand future changes in climate.
I have learnt new skills since starting my apprenticeship - these include skills in communication, self awareness, negotiation, influence and persuasion, change management, data gathering etc. All of these have helped me in my current role and I will continue to develop and use these skills as I progress with the implementation of the climate action plan.
I very much enjoy the learning provided on my programme. I have the opportunity to learn in a way that suits me - this includes one to one tutor sessions, group sessions with expert learning providers, and individual learning based on assigned tasks given by my tutor. I value the learning in my course.
My programme is very well organised and structured. I am told well in advance when my sessions will be, and if I cannot make these, we can decide a time to reschedule. Moreover, I am able to discuss which order the topics and sessions are taught with my tutor, this means I can ensure tasks align with my current work day to day which is really helpful.
I receive a good level of support from my employer. My manager attended reviews with my apprenticeship tutor and we discuss apprenticeship progress in my one to one sessions. I am also provided a day per week to work on my studies. Lastly, my organisation has provided me with a mentor and opportunities to develop my skills, which has been really beneficial for me.
I have already received a great deal of support from my training provider in which we have covered what to expect in the EPA and how to start preparing content for that now. We have also started to practice professional discussions and advice on how to improve my work when I've finished tasks.
I think my qualification has enabled me to develop skills relevant to my role, and as much as anything gain confidence in the work place. It's helped me to learn to reflect on my work and use the skills I've learnt in my apprenticeship to carry out day to day tasks in my role.
I haven't yet taken part in any extra curricular activities at work. I did attend the southeast army leadership day last year which aimed to develop leadership and team skills. I have also registered interest in an apprenticeship outdoor day later this year which will hopefully offer a new environment to get to know other apprentices and develop skills further.
Yes
MBKB are a really great organisation to learn with for an apprenticeship. They offer one to one support, discuss all elements of the apprenticeship with you (I have never felt like I've been left in the dark) and have a high level of knowledge and expertise in relation to the course material.
I would say communicate as much as possible with your tutor and make the most of any group sessions that are provided. So long as you put the effort in, your tutor will at least match if not exceed that effort. I would be open to have discussions that will enhance your understanding.
