On a usual day to day basis I will speak to and address any updates/information with my mentor. Following this I could complete any of the following activities, completing/assisting with Construction Phase Planning, attending site meetings, assisting project managers to ensure EHS compliance within their site, providing assistance to staff members & customers on site, or on external projects.
The main skills I have developed since starting my apprenticeship would be, communication, work ethic, time management and day to day. By being involved in so many more professional and social conversations with new colleagues, team members and other apprentices, it has definetly opened me to how to start new conversations, learn how to be around new people and embrace my own personality with them.
Iv'e thoroughly enjoyed my programme so far. The structure of the apprenticeship has been played out in clear terms, with a good pathway of covering a lot of topics whilst still learning about the role. Personally, it has been a great insight of a working world, and what it's like to work a full time job with real responsibilities!
The apprenticeship structure is clear. The first year I will focus on the projects/on site EHS work, co-working with key suppliers and contractor companies, such as SES & National Grid. This is a contrast to the second year of the programme, which will be more on site based at the in house Hebburn factory, doing all things EHS. Covering more environmental/biodiversity based work.
My employer(s) have presented themselves as a very approachable team and helpful. I've been assigned a mentor, who I work with on a daily basis. I speak with him everyday and complete a lot of tasks with him, with a lot of opportunities to speak with him about any issues or support needed. To support this we also have a weekly catch up, where we go through personal & work questions, where any issues can easily be raised.
My training provider, SETA, have assigned me a mentor to guide me, help me & assess me with my qualification. I see him every 5-10 weeks, where we go through assignments & work-life. They provide me different checklists & points to cover within my work. I've been given a template to ensure I tick off all the points that I can, alongside a programme to cover 50 off the job learning hours.
To achieve the qualification I need to cover around 4 different KSB checkpoints each assignment. These KSB's cover the appropriate points which I should learn & improve on within my working life. Therefore, by aiming to check off as many of these as possible - I can then link my qualification to what I need to do in my work.
This year, a part of the company have created an initiative called Next UK. This initiative is focused on bringing all the apprentices and interns together to socialise in different events. These include pub nights, social gatherings, online calls to discuss well being, Q&A with team leaders & management members.

Siemens have a fantastic way of engaging with their employees. The work-life balance is an essential part of each employees life, and it is massively respected by the company. The support and out of work access the company gives you is a great insentive to continue working hard and putting in effort for the effort the company does to ensure our happiness.
I would tell anyone applying to Siemens to really embrace themselves and express their personality. Siemens strive looking at people for the future, people with new ideas and who are able to apply themselves to any situation. Anything bright, new or supportive you can bring to the table will be massively respected and looked upon by any Siemens employer.
