  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I manage a team of installation crews that deliver and install gas and electric white goods / cooking appliances to customers. I have a team of 40 engineers and 3 senior engineers that assist with the day to day running. My engineers work a 4 on 4 off shifts pattern so we operate 7 days a week

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • My experience is in the gas industry so I have learned a lot about logistics since joining AO. This area was completely new to me. I have developed my people management skills and been able to use a wide variety of management styles which I am also developing at work

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am still in the early stages of the program but I have learned and enjoyed the workshops so far. I have also enjoyed and been quite surprised at how much of my day to day work counts towards evidence for my apprenticeship. This allows me to review my work from a different perspective

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I feel that the program is well organised, I have received the days of all of the workshops with plenty of notice I have a good understanding of what is required of me before and after each workshop. My tutor has booked in our monthly reviews also with good notice

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer is very supportive and has encouraged me to allocate time in my diary to do my apprenticeship work. My day to day work is very busy so it is important that I segregate time to ensure I am meeting the deadlines for my apprenticeship I have so far managed this well

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have plenty of notice of upcoming workshops. I have good notice of meetings and reviews with my tutor. I know I can email my tutor if needed but I have not had to ask any additional questions or for any additional support so far. This is very helpful knowing support is available

    8/10

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that I am performing better in my role as I am constantly thinking if the work I am doing can count towards evidence for my qualification. This ensures I am more thorough with my work, I ensure it is well presented and comprehensive. It has given me drive and motivation

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • As I am mostly home based I do not get a lot of opportunity to engage in social activities through work. We do have a corporate social media platform called Yammer and there are opportunities that arise through there. We also get options to book early tickets for the AO arena

    3/10

  • 9a. Would you recommend AO to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend AO to a friend as I have found the company very good to work for. There are generous benefits including health care and employee assistance programs. The company has good values and a good ethos. Work is very busy and can be stressful at times but I feel supported

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to AO?
  • I would advise them to research the qualifications to allow them to choose what is right for them in their role. I would also suggest that they consider the time commitment and to be very organised. It is important to keep the qualification in mind so opportunities to gather evidence are not missed
