Currently my role involves only classroom-based learning of the basic engineering principles, we are expecting to begin more hands-on work within the coming months
I have gained a lot of theoretical knowledge to form the basis of my engineering abilities, however, I have not yet learned any practical skills and there are some areas on the theoretical side where our instruction and teaching has been lacking.
Though I am enjoying learning, the course currently feels disorganised and I have found the lack of direction and order to be quite heavily stress inducing.
This is the first year of this course being existent and currently it does not feel as though it has been well organized. There are various different parties involved in running the course and the communication between those in charge leaves a lot to be desired.
Rolls Royce have been very supportive of, and engaging with apprentices.
Unfortunately, at this stage it does not feel as though the training providers in respect of Derby College and the University of Derby have provided the required level of instruction or support to apprentices.
Upon completing my four years, I believe that my HNC will put me into a strong position when moving into the business whereby I will have gained all of the required knowledge and skills, at the same time as acquiring work experience, and having already made connections within the business.
Yes - Stem and networking opportunities are always available to apprentices wishing to engage with them,
Yes
This apprenticeship is the beginning of a fantastic career, I hope that after receiving feedback regarding the issues that have been experienced by apprentices during the first year of this course will allow the training providers to greatly improve the experience for future students.
Positive attitude and enthusiasm go a long way.
