  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is to act as a duty manager on shift and deputise for my store manager if he is on holiday or off sick. I am in charge of a small team and give them tasks to help run the shop smoothly. I have my own set of keys to lock and unlock the store with.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have thoroughly enjoyed the programme I am on. Everything is relevant to work and nothing felt pointless. The workload of coursework was steady and the constructive feedback I received from my tutor along the way was very motivating and useful and helped with goals and jobs in future work.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very well structured. The Tutors arrange regular reviews and meeting to make sure you are getting in okay and keep the the dates. The scheduled conference calls were on date and time and if they were to be changed at least a months notice was given. The tutors are organised with the work they give out.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive six paid hours a week and an extra day off to complete through my apprenticeship. I also had a ten hour contract raise to meet the requirements for the apprenticeship. • 9a. Would you recommend Co-op to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend Co-op to a friend because the hourly rate for the work required is reasonable. Regular overtime is attainable but also a variety of shifts allows for a semi flexible work pattern. Higher management are fair to lower levels and care about the staff. Complaints and grievances are dealt with professionally if needed.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Co-op?
  • You must be willing to work all types of hours. Co-op is open 7 days a week and working hours in them can be between 5am and 11pm and are usually 8 hours max. You must be able to work in a fast paced environment as their are plenty of services that Co-op offer than may need to be attended to while also working the shop stuff.
