My day to day role involves observing other co-workers, who are also project managers carry out their tasks. This then allows me to preform similar tasks to which they do from emailing to creating tracking sheets on excel & etc. My day can also include doing studying for college and the apprenticeship programme.
During my experience as a whole so far, the skills I have learned would be using a variety of software from excel, cemar,g-viewer, etc. The skills I have developed further would be my uses of PowerPoint and word, furthermore I developed my verbal skills with presenting PowerPoint's and forms of data through graphs and spreadsheets.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my programme so far it has been a very positive experience, that has involved a lot of learning and requires a drive of want to achieve, allowing me to get the most out of my experience. It is most definitely a programme I would recommend to others.
I think my apprenticeship programme is very well organised and it allows for a lot of freedom in making the experience your own so each person gets out what they put in. This is a great way to structure the programme as people can tailor them to their needs specifically.
There is a lot of support as an apprentice from a variety of people within my company, the main support unit for all apprentices is the specifically the HR team / future talent team, since they take care of the apprentices specifically. Then you also have support through the team you are placed in as well as any future teams you will be placed in through out the apprenticeship.
There is a sufficient amount of support from my training provider on working towards completing my qualification. This support varies from support of answering questions to website recommendations for further research, personally it allows me to further my development as a student and achieve the most out of my experience.
Whilst working in my role I naturally learn how to do things, but with the support of the learning to gain my qualification it provides this extra layer of knowledge and understanding to my day to day working life. Therefore it allows me to perform better in my job role as a whole.
Yes there is a number of social events that people often hold within their respective teams, as well as social drinks arranged every so often. There is also weekly football matches held that anyone can participate in. Finally there is often a number of professional networking events to attend (these are typically external).
Yes
I believe it is a good company to work for, as there is countless opportunities for people to start their careers, or further develop their careers in any way which they wish really. It is definitely an amazing experience for anyone, not just an apprentice. However an an apprentice it is a great way to kick start your career.
When applying to HS2 I would recommend conveying your versatility as a candidate as well as your willingness to learn, as working at HS2 is a massive learning opportunity for anyone. Also as with any interview or application the individual should be themselves, and put on a display of there best qualities and how they are useful.
