My role as a people manager is has me involved with a different side to the company of McDonalds. I am in charge of recruitment and retention, along with most stages of the employee life cycle. as well as benefits, rewards, recognition, and wellbeing. I am there to help employees with anything they need.
Yes, i have definitely developed a lot of skills in this new role. I am a lot more involved with grievance and discipline meetings. i have developed my own interpersonal skills to be a better listener and to offer support and guidance to employees that need it such as crew members or management,
The work content is hard, and i find it is a lot of work to keep up with. Especially if you have annual leave you can fall behind immensely and it can become stressful. that being said, the support i have had from my coach and tutors ahs been amazing, and i can definitely feel the benefits of the course.
i think there could be more time to complete the work to account for time off or even for a busy working week. For the content of this course i don't think 8 hours a week is enough time to fit everything in, especially with all the BUD work too. There has been lots of changes with tutors and sometimes classes have not been on. i do not like the recorded classes that are on now, they are not as beneficial as the live ones to ask questions
The support from my employer has been good. I am always given my time to get the work done. When i have asked for feedback it is always received in a timely manner. My line manager is always available when i need him to be to help with the tasks he has to be involved in.
The support from Avado has been good too. When i have needed extension they have bene very accommodating. When i needed a last minute meeting before the deadline they squeezed me in and really helped. My LDC has been amazing and she always helps me when i need it, giving great support and advice.
The learning i have done is massively helping me in my role, i am often saying that i can feel the benefit of the course in my day to day work. I am more confident and i have a much better understanding of my role and how it all works and how it is connected. it has also give me motivation and encouragement to be better in my role.
At restaurant level there are opportunities like football teams, fun days etc. In my role i would say i was more on the outside of these events but could join in if i wished too. There are often online webinars that you can join too, educational and social. for example we have an international women's day call coming up soon to celebrate stories etc.
Yes
I think the stigma around working at McDonalds is false. It is not a dead end job. There are plenty of opportunities to go higher in the company. It has good wages, and it cares for its employees. There are things in place for employee wellbeing that most companies do not have.
Get involved with the team, everyone is there to work together and pull together to achieve the results you need. Have faith in the management teams that they do care and want to support you however they can. Have confidence to ask questions, there is no such thing as a silly question!
